WEBINAR - Dangerous drinking, addiction and disability

A 30-min webinar in advance of Alcohol Awareness Week (18 – 25 Nov) hosted by Generali UK.

About this event

According to latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), deaths from alcohol-specific causes in the UK have increased from 11.8 per 100,000 people in 2019 to 14.0 per 100,000 in 2020.*

The theme of alcohol awareness week this year is ‘Change’. Coming together to help make change happen involves an understanding of the problem. It also involves sharing the tools and support needed to make that change happen. Generali UK will speak with guests about dangerous drinking and addiction, including the work and workplace impacts, plus the support available to employers and employees.

Although addiction does not meet the definition of ‘disability’ under the Equality Act 2010, it’s worth noting that it might where the addiction has caused a physical or mental impairment. The question is, does making a ‘reasonable adjustment’ in such circumstances actually serve to perpetuate the addiction or reinforce the behaviour. An important question which we will cover.
