Webinar - Spotlight on the UK working carer crisis

About this event

Around 600 people a day give up work to care, according to Carers UK research. And 73% of carers in employment said they found it stressful to juggle work and care, with many having to reduce their working hours.

Meanwhile, return-to-office policies - particularly those with limited flexibility - may inadvertently contribute to a two-tier workforce and challenge diversity, according to a report by King’s College London and King’s Business School. The report draws attention to the difficulties faced by individuals with caregiving responsibilities, who may struggle to meet full time office requirements.

The Carer’s Leave Act, introduced last year, has prompted more employers to go above and beyond the statutory regulations to introduce paid carer’s leave. But this should be considered a minimum requirement, says Kay Haighton-Lloyd, Nurse Manager at MorganAsh. There’s more that employers can do to help.

In this webinar, we will:

  • Learn the type of challenges that working carers often face, including the impact of workforce trends; from return-to-office mandates to working beyond retirement age
  • Discuss how to avoid working carers taking sick leave to manage their caring responsibilities
  • Explore what formal and informal support is available, both in the workplace and in local communities
