Webinar - How to reverse the rise of work-related stress.

A 40-minute webinar for HR and Line Managers, in partnership with Teladoc Health, in advance of International stress awareness week (3-7 Nov).

Webinar - How to reverse the rise of work-related stress.

About this event

The fastest growing contributor to sickness absence and economic inactivity due to sickness in the UK is mental health amongst the 16-34 age group.

We look at what the evidence* is telling us. And at why this demands new thinking in wellbeing – balancing individual interventions with organisational aspects. We also consider how the services employers already have in place can help.

[*Background info / evidence]

The HSE will publish its annual work-related ill health and injury statistics in November (usually around 20th). In 2024, the rate of self-reported work-related stress, depression or anxiety – at 776,000 cases - was still higher than the pre-pandemic level, but had decreased from 910,000 in 2022/23.

Younger workers, specifically those aged 18-24 are more likely to experience work-related stress and are less likely to discuss their stress levels with line managers.

And those aged 18-24 are three times more likely to have needed time off due to deteriorating health caused by NHS waits than those aged 55+.

This is impacting economic inactivity as well as absence. A quarter of those who are economically inactive due to ill-health are under the age of 35, according to the Keep Britain Working review. In the 16-34 age group, the largest increase in long-term sickness was observed for mental health conditions like depression, bad nerves and anxiety, according to ONS.
