Launch of Eldercare Support Service
1st December 2015 - London
Introducing a new complimentary service from Generali Employee Benefits UK, in partnership with leading EAP provider Optum, designed to assist Group Income Protection clients both support and engage with their growing number of sandwich generation staff, or those with caring responsibilities.
Our working schedule and caring responsibilities are often delicately balanced. When an emergency medical situation arises, especially with an ageing parent, this balance can become unmanageable and the resulting situation can be complex, time-consuming, and traumatic.
The new Eldercare Support Service from Generali UK offers information and support to all UK employees of our GIP policyholders, whether insured or not, and can include a report written by an Occupational Therapist experienced in eldercare, who will assess the employee’s parent* in their own home. The report aims to answer the big questions such as whether the employee’s parent* will be able to cope upon discharge from an unplanned stay in hospital, what sort of extra assistance they may need, what assistance is available from the local NHS trust or social care services, as well as providing a summary of key contact details. This valuable resource empowers the employee and better equips them to deal with what can be a highly stressful and emotional time.
In addition, access to the Generali/Optum telephonic EAP has now been extended to include the non-resident dependant parents of all staff of our UK GIP policyholders, allowing parents access to useful telephonic and online information and assistance on topics such as bereavement, accommodation, mobility aids etc.

Note on Tax:
Our understanding of the current legislation is that a free telephonic EAP service offered to staff and their dependants, does not give rise to a tax liability. The exemption from tax in relation to an Occupational Therapist report offered to non-Group Income Protection members may not apply and we recommend you seek tax advice should you wish to offer this benefit.
*Parents resident in UK discharged from hospital following at least an overnight stay for non-elective treatment.
